This is the traditional type of bracing found on the guitars of most of the famous makers. As the name implies, the individual braces are laid out in the shape of a fan, generally with between five and nine individual braces. The bracing and top have to work together to deliver the required sound. So, the precise properties and layout of the fans in my guitars may vary between instruments, according to the properties of the top. |

The term lattice bracing has taken on a number of different meanings in recent years, now mostly associated with synthetic materials ultra thin tops. The bracing in my guitars is more traditional, being made from spruce laid out in a lattice (or diamond) shape. The greater support provided by the lattice means that the top can be made a bit thinner and more domed, with the aim of obtaining more volume without losing the sound qualities traditionally associated with the Spanish guitar. |
